Introducing the Highly Series - Journals Nobody Wanted, Stories Everybody Needed

High school counselors have a lot of ideas… and sometimes those ideas turn into something bigger than anyone expected.

Highly is a coming-of-age journal series written from the reluctant, messy, funny, and painfully honest perspectives of teens who all attend the same high school. When a counselor challenges students to start journaling - to figure out who they are, what matters to them, and what life might look like after graduation - absolutely nobody is excited about it.

But then the pages start filling up.

Late-night thoughts.
Doodles in the margins.
Lists, confessions, half-finished dreams…

And slowly, something shifts.

As each student writes, they begin uncovering pieces of themselves they never knew how to say out loud. Friendships change. Secrets overlap. Their stories intersect in unexpected ways. And the everyday chaos of high school turns into a living map of identity, pressure, humor, heartbreak, and hope.

Every book in the Highly Series follows a different student with a different story - but they’re all doing the same thing:
trying to figure life out, one reluctant journal entry at a time.

First Up: Highly Scientific Record

My upcoming book, Highly Scientific Record, is almost here - and it kicks off the series.

This first story follows a sixteen-year-old who never meant to start a journal. His counselor suggested it, so he decided to treat the whole thing like an “experiment.”

At first, it’s just scribbles. Random notes. Observations about weird days, awkward moments, and everything he’d rather laugh about than feel.

But slowly, those pages become something else -
a record of growing up, messing up, showing up, and learning who he is when nobody is watching.

It isn’t a hero story.
It isn’t a tragedy.
It’s just life - written the way teens actually experience it.

And honestly, that might be the most real story of all.

yours,

April
